Article for MyLocal News

25th April 2017

As this column is called ‘House Notes’, it is only fair to point out that house matters have not been far from my mind for the past month.  After nearly 15 happy years living in Lower Road, the Gauke family have moved house, albeit just round the corner – and still in the centre of Chorleywood.

The Easter recess was largely spent unpacking and settling in to the new home.  In advance of the house move, I also spent a few days in the US on Ministerial business.  First, in Washington DC meeting figures in the new administration plus Congressman and Senators.  The US is an important ally and it is important we develop good relations.  Then, second, it was on to the West Coast to see how technology could change the nature of healthcare, as well as visiting Lockheed Martin, an important defence contractor for the Ministry of Defence.

But local issues were never far from my mind.  There are two prominent issues at the moment.  The first issue I mentioned in my last column - the provision and location of hospital services in South West Hertfordshire.  The second is the future of the Croxley Rail Link (or Metropolitan Line Extension), which I covered in the column before that.  At the time of writing, I am about to have meetings with the Secretary of State for Transport and then the Mayor of London on this matter.

I am sure I will have more to say about both these subjects in future columns.  But for the moment, it is back to unpacking boxes!
